Introduction:
Mr. K. Dorai Raj, is the Chief Operating Officer of Apof Organic Certification Agency ( AOCA ) in Bangalore. AOCA is engaged in the inspection and
certification of organic farms and products as per the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP ).
Mr. Dorai Raj has been one of the founder Directors of this institution since 2002. Before taking up this assignment, he was with the Department of Agriculture for 3 years and then worked in agro inputs- marketing in Rallis India Limited, for 30 years.
Birth:
Mr. K. Dorai Raj was born on the 22nd June 1946 to Mr. T. Kuppurangam and Mrs.Jayalakshmi in Kunnathur village, Tiruvannamalai District of Tamilnadu as the first of 4 sons.
Education:
He had his elementary school education in Tirukovilur, Villupuram and Cheyyar towns in Tamil Nadu. He did his high school and Pre-University education in Voorhees High School and College in Vellore, T.N.
He took the B.Sc (Agriculture) degree from the Agricultural College and Research Institute at Coimbatore, T.N. During the period when he was in High School and colleges ,
he has participated in various contests like article writing, debating, drawing, painting, photography and NCC activities.
Marriage:
Mrs. Malliga Dorai Raj
Mr. K. Dorai Raj married Malliga in the year 1971. Since then she has been the force behind Mr. Dorai Raj for his well being and development by her dedicated support and encouragement.
She has been a wonderful home- maker and provider of moral support and guidance to Mr. K. Dorai Raj, their children and other family members. They are blessed with two daughters , Indira and Uma.
Daughters:
1. Mrs. Indira Ravishankar
Indira is the first daughter. She is a very intelligent and caring person. After her graduation in Bangalore, She got married in 1995, to Mr. A. Ravishankar who has a master’s degree in Engineering from the IIT Kharagpur.
Ravi is a hard working type and broadminded in nature. Ravi and Indira were living in Osaka, Japan for 3 years and then moved to Austin, USA in the year, 1999. Ravi is working for IBM. They have two sweet children - a son, Rishab and a daughter , Madhumita. Both the children are going to school in Austin and are being trained in various sports and creative activities besides their regular education.
2. Mrs. Uma Umamaheshwaran
Uma is the second daughter. She is also an intelligent and affectionate daughter. After her graduation in Mumbai, she got married to Mr. E. Umamaheshwaran, an engineering graduate in the year 1998.
Mr. Mahesh is a sweet tempered and kind person. He is working for Energy Solutions in Abu Dhabi, UAE. They are residing in Abu Dhabi. They have two little sweet kids: Aravind and Karthik. Both are studying in Abu Dhabi besides pursuing sports and creative activities.
Professional career of Mr. K. Dorai Raj
1968-71
Mr. Dorai Raj has worked as Agricultural Extension Officer for 3 years and popularised high yielding paddy varieties like IR8 during the Green Revolution campaign.
1971-2001
In the next 30 years, Mr. Dorai Raj was engaged in the marketing of agro inputs in Rallis India Limited, a Tata Company. He was working in the Southern, Central and Eastern Regions of the country.
Then he took over as the Vice President of Fertilizers marketing in Rallis India Limited. During his tenure in Rallis India Limited, his contribution was in building effective teams to achieve goals set by the Company.
His teams won many trophies, laurels and recognitions for achieving the ambitiously set targets. Even now, he cherishes the memento presented by his colleagues in Central Region in the year 1988 with the inscription
“Team Building is an art in which our Dorai is very smart”. He always feels that whatever success achieved was due to the effective leadership and moral support given by the senior management as well as the dedicated
and motivated team members who worked with him.
2001-2012
Mr. K. Dorai Raj is now actively engaged in the organic certification activity in Bangalore. His passion is to guide farmers in the sustainable farming practices.
